We’re delighted that Conwy Mussels have been given special status to celebrate their unique location and traditional methods.
The Feast is timed to coincide with the mussel season and they have been a special part of every festival.
Traditionally hand-raked as they have been for centuries where the River Conwy meets the sea, the mussels have a distinctive flavour. Now they also have a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) awarded by the European Union.
You can find fresh and cooked mussels on the quayside and in the Surf ‘n Turf Restaurant, and they will take pride of place in the Welsh Food Marquee.
This marquee, right by the Conwy Mussel centre, is hosted by the Welsh Government who support producers in Wales to achieve protected status for their quality products.
You will also find other specially designated Welsh foods including; Charcutier Ltd, Halen Môn Salt from Anglesey, Bodnant Welsh Caerphilly cheese, Carmarthen Ham and Welsh wine including Gwinllan Conwy Vineyard.
